The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 21st (local time) that the U.S. government is considering accommodating refugees in Afghanistan at U.S. military bases overseas, including South Korea.
According to the WSJ report, the U.S. government is considering this as a way to ease the overcrowding of bases in Qatar, Bahrain and Germany.
The U.S. Department of Defense is considering military bases in Virginia, Indiana and California, and other U.S. military bases in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Kosovo, Bahrain and Italy, the newspaper said.
Currently, Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., is expected to be the center of processing for refugees fleeing Afghanistan.
The Pentagon is also preparing at least one military base, including a base in New Jersey, to accommodate them.
However, officials say the U.S. is turning to its facilities in and out of the country as Afghanistan's escape procession in Kabul raises concerns among other countries.
